Shana is a native Washingtonian and has been a teacher in the Jewish community for over 16 years. She has taught 2nd, 4th, 11th and 12th grades and created a school-wide Tzedakah curriculum. Her mother is the Executive Director of Temple Beth Ami so she comes to this position naturally and with an amazing mentor.
Shana graduated from the University of Rochester undergrad and the George Washington University Law School. She owned a pet store in Bethesda for nine years and has her own menagerie at home. When not at the temple, you can find her walking her dogs or training for half marathons.
Director of Congregational Education
Mindy Silverstein, our Director of Congregational Education, has over 25 years of experience in Jewish and Family Life education and communal work. For years, she ran the 6th grade community-wide program, “The Immigrant In Each of Us” the Jewish Teen Institute, a teacher development program for the upper school teacher, and served as Chair of the Greater Washington DC community wide Professional Day.
Mindy attended Boston University and received her Masters degree from George Washington University as well as her certification in Jewish Family Life Education.
She lives in Olney with her husband Ken; and they have three grown children, Jenna, Keri and Adam, who just celebrated his 3 year anniversary with his wife Bri.
Mindy is delighted to be at Bethesda Jewish Congregation and looks forward to being an active participant within the community.
